Previews Reviews
By Earl Geier and Matt Streets

Welcome to the Ninth installment of Previews Reviews.

This column is a review of some items offered in the current Previews magazine, the February 2004 issue, which we recommend for one reason or another. Items in this issue are due out in April of 2004 (and after, depending on the manufacturer and his dedication to deadlines). Your local store may not carry these items normally, so it's best to place a special order for them. They must be ordered by your store before February 14.
They're are many other items offered for sale in Previews, of course, and it's recommended you grab a copy and look through it for YOUR favorites. That way you can go broke even FASTER than relying on just our picks.
As usual, we are not responsible for any mistakes herein, either our own or anyone else's. We have not seen these items, unless they're reprints, but are going from what we know of the track records of the creators involved, and what we read in Previews. Comments can be sent to earlgeier@aol.com .
Information listed is as follows:
Title, issue or volume number where applicable, format (hardcover, softcover, comic, or magazine, Preview's catalogue page number and price).

Adventures of the Escapist SC GN P23 $17.95
This book will collect the Michael Chabon series of retro- Golden Age stories featuring his character from Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Superman #204 Comic P52 $2.50
Jim Lee illustrated Batman, with Jeof Loeb writing, and catapulted it from the middle of the pack to best seller status. Here he teams with an unlikely writer, Brian Azzurello (known for 100 Bullets and other "gritty" works) to try to take a world reknown character who's slipped lower than the middle of the pack and do the same for him.

Harley And Ivy mini-series comic P76 $2.50
Paul Dini and Bruce Timm helmed the award winning Batman animated series. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm did the award winning comic Mad Love. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm are doing this.

Wonder Woman Statue P80 $195.00
A statue based off designs by artist Adam Hughes. Mat be too muscular for some. But not me. Rowf!

Gotham Central SC P87 $9.95
Collection of the underrated series about what the police force in Gotham does the REST of the time while Batman is being Bruce Wayne.

Tom Strong Vol.3 HC P90 $24.95
Alan Moore. Enjoy him now cuz' he's quit comics.

Spirit Archives Vol. 13 HC P91 $49.95
Second volume of Eisner's work after returning from WWII..The rest of the world knows he's an American genius; Why don't you? (One time in the 80's, then-hot Bo Derek and Eisner arrived (separately) in the Netherlands; they shared the front page of a Dutch Tabloid).

Comic Book Heaven V2 #10 Magazine P200 $3.50
Magazine celebrating the vagaries and inconsistencies of the Golden and Silver age comics. I MAY have art in this one.

Humorous Illustration, SC P219 marked down to $9.99
It was worth it even at the full price I paid. 14 artists, their work with commentary including Maurice Sendak, Jules Feiffer, Will Eisner, Sergio Aragones, Mort Drucker and others.

Black and White Images 2nd annual collection SC P288 $20.00
Great collection of B&W artwork, most not seen in years, from the Golden Age of Illustration.

Neal Adams Monsters SC P318 $12.95
Collects an expanded version of Adams' Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman story. Adams is a great storyteller, NOT a great writer, but the art's superb. Also features some of Adams' movie art.
Comic Book Marketplace #112 Magazine P334 $6.95
Just look at the cover.

Roman Dirge Zombie Bunny Plush toy P420 $18.99
The perfect gift for the Goth in your life.

This is the end of the Previews Reviews column for now. If anyone was reading this they were few and far between. The one thing I did get out of it was looking more closely at Previews, which was a blessing AND a curse. Now you have to go out and buy your own damn copy of Previews. To any loyal readers that are out there, Matt (who's vacationing in friggin' Ireland) and I say, so long!
